No, not mine, he's fine I know you don't like to do this Dr. O, so I completely understand if you don't respond. One of my boarders is going away for 10 days and I want to ease my mind. Her horse lost 50 pounds in one month. She had the vet out 30 days ago because it seemed the horse was peeing excessively. Took the blood tests and it came back normal. She took the salt block away (per vet) and he appeared to normalize. She was out of town for a few days last week, so I was grooming her horse and it was very obvious to me that he had lost quite a bit of weight (hard to see without feeling -- lots of winter coat), I immediately upped his feed 2 pounds, then once we talked she is having me give him 12 pounds of hay (4 pounds orchard hay and 2 pounds alf/grass mix am and pm.) and 3 pounds of grass hay pellets in a pasture pal per day, he also gets 1.5 cups of omalene 100 with source vitamins at night. So he's now getting a total of 15 pounds per day, an increase of 6 pounds per day. He has put on 7 pounds in one week. Is this an acceptable rate? Should I suggest upping the hay? Or are we on the right track? He was 855 pounds 37 days ago, last week he was 794, now he's 802. Morgan gelding, 10 years old. He does crib, if that means anything. I've known this horse for 3 years and he has always been a very easy keeper -- almost as easy as my guy. She's sure he'll be fine, that there's nothing wrong since he's gained 7 pounds. Signed, the worry wart...
