My horse was just trimmed 2 weeks ago and the farrier suggested I start treating for thrush. I got the impression it was just beginning. I've never dealt with this before so I read the article and posts on thrush. Now I am confused because my horse does not have any black discharge or odor from his hoof. He is not sensitive when I pick out his hoof. The only abnormality is the sulcus of his frog looks cut up. There was a part hanging which I clipped off. (I wonder why the farrier did not do this). I have been cleaning out 2x a day and using betadine. I don't see any change in 2 weeks but how long does it take for this to grow back? I am wondering if he just sliced his frog by running over rocks. It is a front hoof and the others are fine. Should I continue what I am doing? He is barefoot and on pasture 24/7. It has not been overly wet here and he has a nice dry barn for shelter. Thanks for any advice.

Since we cannot see what your farrier saw Ann we have difficulty judging what you should do. Maybe he cut the thrush out and wants to treat to keep it from coming back?

That is a good possibility. I will wait and see what he says at the next trim. Thanks.
