Hello. While searching for a horse, I came across a 14 yr. gelding that seemed to be neglected for some time. I've read all the articles, but can't seem to put my finger on the diagnose, and what the treatment would be for this...time, money, etc...
Hair loss completely around ears, forehead, spreading down cheeks. The skin in these areas seemed to be darker. Inside the ears were what looked like white eggs, clusters, very visable, and hair loss here too. He was very uncomfortable with a bit in his mouth, and frequently scratched his front legs with his nose. A few small patches of hair loss on other parts of his body also. It also looked like there was recently some discharge from his eye, as it had a streaked look. Is this simple lice? mange? Is is contagous?
Expensive to treat? Does it recur? Also, this horse had not been immunized, or wormed in at least a year. Help???

Hello Sheila,
It sounds like you have several problems there and not enough information for us to make a diagnosis. Before buying this horse I would get the vet out.
