Discussion on Tartar and Kidney Problems
Author Message

Has anyone had experience with excessive buildups of tartar on the teeth relating to kidney problems in their horse? I was reading and came across this and found it interesting. Why would there be any link?
My horse has developed bad tartar and excessive salivation when eating. It's time for the dentist to come but since she's never had the tartar problem, I was wondering.

She's also bloated from her point of hip downward towards her abdomen on her left side (could be wrong on the side info). The same thing in her throatlatch area on both sides (From jaw going up toward ear). This mare is overweight and I've been attributing it to that. She also has cushings, heaves, chronic laminitis, and is on an EPMS diet (which seems to be helping her energy level and relieve some of her stiffness). She'll be 23 in May.
I meant to just ask a simple question about tartar but got carried away thinking you may need history.
Thanks,
Mary
