Discussion on Yearling with Very Red Eyes
Author Message

Hello again Dr. O.
I am addressing this question for a friend, I hope that is okay. She just bought a yearling filly and it was shipped 600 miles. Upon unloading which was at 11:00 p.m. (10 hour trip)the filly's eyes were bloodshot and red. She thought it was most likely due to the trip and thought it would clear up, but a week later it hasn't. There is no discharge, swelling or anything else unusual.
She seems to be acting normally, but lays down very often. Any ideas simple treatment or do you think it will take time to go away. Also any hints on what could be going on that may be more serious? She would like to call a vet, but wanted your input first. Thanks so very, very much.
Denise

It sounds like the eyes are very irritated, I think she needs to get the vet out to look.
