Mare is 286 days pregnant. Bagging up early.

Mare's Placenta is measuring more than 8 on 2 measurements, more than 10 (1.18 on 2
others...)

last pregnancy she was 7mm at 309 days.

Norms are (not sure of source):

Reported normal parameters are:
271-300 days should be less than 8mm
301-330 days should be less than 10 mm.

Vet has recommended Regumate for the rest of the pregnancy.

Comments/Thoughts?

Yes, I have read this. Do you think that the placenta measurements and bagging up early would indicate this as the most likely cause? Any risks with the current treatment?

Yes these are signs of placentitis but the judgement has to be with your veterinarian if this is the diagnosis in your mare.

There are problems that need to be addressed with TMP/SMZ use in pregnant mares and you will find an explanation of this at, Equine Medications and Nutriceuticals » Antibiotics and Antimicrobials » Trimethoprim -Sulfa.

For more on Regumate see, Equine Medications and Nutriceuticals » Reproductive Drugs » Regumate® & Progesterone.
