Here's one for thought. I was lunging my horse and his eyes kept darting out the door, back, forth, back, forth. In other words, his mind was outside the indoor and in the pasture! Anyways, he looked and acted as if he were dizzy at the trot, so when brought down to the walk he sort of had the "I just got off the roller coaster" stagger. He appeared fine after that, no lameness or anything. A couple on lookers immediately said "EPM". Is this unusual behavior or something I should have a vet look into? Can a horse make themselves dizzy like that? I will admit that lunging often makes me VERY dizzy. Thank you in advance.

Hello Wendy, Lunging does not make the horse dizzy as he is not spinning and you should not be either. Learn to walk a small circle rather than spinning in place and lunging will quit being a ride on the roller coaster. Since all we know is what you tell us, the decision to call the vet needs to be made by you. If you are saying the horse, one time took a few irregular steps on the downward transition, it does not sound like a vet trip to me and those murmuring EPM ignored. DrO
