I'm trying to do some research on possible causes of my 4 year old's mild rear lameness before the vet comes out again on the 29th. The last vet exam diagnosed her with a rear-left lameness, possibly the stifle. X-ray's were taken but they were clean. UFP seems like a possibility for this filly. Her stifle occasionally "catches" in downward transitions especially to the left. There is no noticeable limp or hip hike, only a decrease is fluidness to her movement from left to right and a feeling of something not right. She seems to get worse when not exercised. For a while when I was working her regularly I thought the uneveness was pretty much gone. The last time I worked her hard I stood for about 10 minutes and the first few trot strides were off but she seemed to mostly work out of it. However she did have a positive flexion. I know I need to wait for the vet next weekend but I wasn't sure if UFP was something I should suggest or not. It seems to make sense, especially the catching and the fact that in two years she hasn't gotten worse and seems better with exercise. Any thoughts you could add would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, since this is a concern, I would certainly tell the vet. Best is to have a accurate objective description of what the horse does though rather than a diagnosis. If necessary videotape it then watch it slowed down. DrO
