My horse's cannon bones have crooked angles, where they meet the long pastern bone. Both sides seem to dip to the inside. The cartilage between the short pastern and the hoof is also narrower on the inside. He has also formed side bone on the inside each foot, which doesn't seem to bother him. The vet also saw a small bit of ringbone (ouch) in the front of one of the joints.

Is this usually a confirmation issue first, or a shoeing issue first? And, is there anything on the market to support the cartilage in the areas where it's getting extra stress?

I do have photos- which I tried to attach, but they were too large. As of now, he is not lame at all, but I am obviously concerned about his prognosis. My vet really didn't offer any ideas or thoughts, other than to try to keep him in balanced shoeing.

I have been giving him Adequan for a mildly sore left hock- and am thinking it might be good for all his joints?

Any other thoughts appreciated.

Visual appraisal of ringbone is often erroneous, there are several reasons you get enlargement on the front of the pastern. Your descriptions are tough to figure exactly what is going on and pictures would be great.
