Dr. O, I read the article, and I think what I am doing is alright, but wanted your opinion. Levi has been walking 100% sound for a week. Even when the farrier moved the shoe back/cut heel. He said he was walking normal, even before re-setting shoes. He had no pain with the hoof tester. He has been confined for almost 3weeks. I have hand walked him to wander around with his buddies in the small training grass yard. He is feeling so good that he is starting to run in small circles in his small sandy yard, because the others are out. Even with a babysitter. He is also starting to eat the sand, which has me more worried about a sand colic or problem/ He has been off of bute for a week as well. We opened up the round pen and made about a 100 x 80 yard that is mostly dirt, a little short overgrazed grass, and round pen sand. the other horses were let out there this morning. He paced and ran in his run, so I haltered him, walked him around with the other guys and he is now just grazing, eating his grass hay and seems content. Is this OK to do for now, or should I limit his time out in this yard as well? I will probably bring him in several times today, and limit his time out there, till I hear back from you. The 2nd vet(May 3rd) said to keep him in for a week to 10 days, the 3rd vet, who did not see him, just his x-rays,said to keep him in, then hand walk. He did not give a specific time, and is presently in Colorado. Thanks suz

Susan, if there has been rotation we recommend a more gradual increase in the amount of exercise allowed so that if it is too much, not as much damage is done. Usually we increase the amount outside every 3 days. DrO
