Just wondering, we are treating a case of scratches, under the vets supervision, but horse will not put much weight on that leg. Is this normal? No heat in leg or foot

This would seem possible to me because I came home after a couple of weeks of boarding my horses out having explained the situation about scratches, which was not taken seriously. Due to no treatment, the scabs had built up rather thickly. When I tried to pick my horse's feet up to examine them he fell down onto his knees from the pain of bending at the joint. You really need to get those scabs softened up and get down to the cracks in the skin underneath to begin to heal the problem. Until the scabs are gone and healing begins I think this is a very miserable situation for the horse.

Okay update, this is my third day of treatment with a mix the horse trainer gave me, and huge difference. The vet was out and actually told my husband he could ride her. She is so much better. Has had steroids from the vet, the mix the trainer mixed up and sent with me when I was picking up another mare to have bred, and getting washed and treated twice a day and dried. Huge difference. The trainer also told me that it will cause hoof pain on the white hooves, seems to be the worst with those he said. Vet doesnt want her out on the grass or in the sun for awhile though.
