Discussion on Foal with cough and green/yellow discharge from nose

hi
just wondered if anyone had any info for me, as its bank hol weekend in the UK and all are down to a skeleton crew and to busy to see my foal.
he is 9 weeks old and just this last week has developed a cough and snotty nose, his temp is normal and he is still lively in himself. he is out in the day and in at night. some people have mentioned pollen and dust allergys are common this time of year. has anyone got any ideas?

Is the snot clear or grean/yellow? Is his stall/turnout dusty? Foals are very suceptible to dust and dust or pollen irritation can give them a runny nose or a dry cough. Is the cough dry, or more a deep hack? I think that any time snot is green or yellow, there is infection. Do you have a stethoscope and know how to listen to his lungs? Do they sound clear? Are there any raspy or rattling sounds? I would really keep an eye on him and if the snot is colored to be on the safe side would have him checked by the vet. Foals can go from bouncy to deathly ill very quickly - in a matter of hours sometimes.
