Our vet ultra sounded a mare that has been having a discharge ; there is all kinds of action inside the uterus . She is swollen more in her flank areas and at first he thought she might be in foal ; that was a month ago . This mare comes into a one day estrus then she is out ; her uterine wall is quite thick . This is what the vet feels she has altho he did take a specimen of the discharge for a culture ; he aid there was so much junk in the sample that they may not be able to do an identifiable culture . What is this and what can be done ? The mare is about 17 years old .
