Discussion on Contracted heel w/club foot/over at the knee
Author Message

Posted on Sunday, Dec 17, 2000 - 5:41 pm:

I have chatted previously about my club-footed horse who has a contracted heel with a cleft. He has boxy feet in front (genetics) and often stands with his knees slightly over and wobbling. When he is in action you would never think he had anything abnormal but I am curious as to why he stands over at the knee at times. He sometimes reminds me of ex-racehorses who stand like this. Any input as to what is going on in his front legs?

His flexors are a littel contracted. There are three main ones that work on the knee. For more information see, Equine Diseases: Foal Diseases: Contracted Tendons. Though your horse is not a foal the article still has many revelaent points.
