Hi Dr O, I've just noticed that my mare has a small bump on her fetlock. She is not sore or lame at all. I've owned her for years, and I'm certain this wasn't always there, but I don't know how long she has had this. She is not lame, there is no heat or swelling. Just a dime size lump. My vet will be out shortly to do routine care, is this something that can wait until then or should I have him out sooner? Also can you give me a clue as to what this may be? Or what my vet should be looking for. Thank you for any ideas!

I can't edit my original post, but after reading some it sounds like it may be a windpuff?

There are a number of possibilities Robert. We have a picture of a fetlock with the common locations of bumps labeled including windpuffs. You will find it at Diseases of Horses » Skin Diseases » Swellings / Localized Infection / Abscesses » Diagnosing and Assessing Swellings in Horses. DrO

Thank you for directing me there. It sure looks like a windpuff to me. Since there is no lameness at this time, we'll watch it and wait for our vet during routine care.
