I am looking into using hormones (progesterone + estradiol, lutalyse, hcg) to manipulate the cycles of my ponies so I can schedule their breedings around the time I have help with collecting my stallion. A vet I know said emphatically not to use prostaglandins with ponies. I am seeking more info on this...I've talked with one pony breeder who has used these hormones with no adverse effects, but that is just one breeder.... I have Section A (small) Welsh mares. ???

I have never heard of "being a pony" as a contraindication of the use of prostaglandins F2a (dinoprost). There are studies which use ponies to examine the effects of its administration and despite large numbers of exposure have never seen an adverse reaction reported.
