1 twelve your old pregant mare (9 months), 1 two year old filly and 1 three year old filly enjoyed sharing about 1/2 (about 5 lbs.) of Stongid C 2X between them this AM after opening the gate to my barn. They were wormed (tubed) 6 weeks ago and then were started on Stongid C 2X at that time. I have a call into my vet but she is on vacation. Should I be worried? Have you had horses react strongly to having too much of this stuff?

Doses of up to 140 mg per kilogram have been tolerated by horses without ill effect. For a 1000 (450 kg) lb horses that would be...63 grams. Your horses got....about 50 grams. Though I cannot speak to the pregnancy, the horses, if a thouasand lbs, should be Ok even if just one got it all. However at such a high dose I still would recommend either a charcoal or oil (not both) tubing just to be sure, especially in the case of the pregnant mare. Your chance of a unusual reaction are much higher with high doses.

PS: we have had a pyrantel article in the Work Pile for some time now and I finished it and put it up in the Medications/Dewormers section.
