Dr. O,

What would be proper for a cocktail of Ace and Dormosedan. I think last time my vet rec'd 1cc of Ace and .5 of Dormosedan (for ear clipping).

Also, I have a horse on Roboxin and Banamine for back issues. Can he be safely sedated for ear clipping, or will the meds not be a safe mix? He would just need Ace alone.

Thanks in advance!

This is acceptable though I like to use 2 cc ace per thousand pounds, then adjust the amount of detomidine up or down as needed. The ace is much cheaper and I feel a little more confidence that we are dampening the hind limb kinks associated with xylazine and detomidine.

Sedatives must be adjusted to the weight of the horse, the procedure, how it is given (I or IM), and the temperment of the horse. The question is how well did it meet your needs, you could adjust the dosage up or down as needed.
