At my barn the other night a few of us wondered if there is anything written on worming based on geography- does it vary? It seems no one really agrees on a worming regamine- I use specific rotation from my vet to comply with preventicare program-that includes colic insurance... daily strongid 2X and equimax in the spring- and fall- but everyone has a different idea. Many feel wormers should be specific to geography? Virtually every horse owner had a different idea on worming- which is concerning, I guess. I let my vet set the program for me- and I have fecal tests done twice a year- probably don't need to- as I have two horses and they share a pasture-( they are the only ones..) so I wonder if I need to - they both are on the same program! I sent the article on worming to all in the discussion- but no reference as to different climates- should there be?

The problem is accounting for all possible combination of climates, the particular parasites, and variables in the pasture themselves. Basically while climate has a lot of effect on the worms life cycle the only way to account for all the varaibles is to measure the end result by running fecal tests. It is what you do with this information that is important and what our article seeks to address. DrO
