Is it true that paste is better absorbed than powder in regards to the HA joint supplement?

Hi again Melissa, I've heard from many people that it "seems" that their horses do better with gel, so that's what I'm using.

That said, Katrina, a member here, was doing a trial with Recovery EQ and I believe it's the one that has HA in it and is a powder. I'll try to find her thread, but if I remember correctly it was going very well for her. I'll be trying that after seeing how my guy does with just adequan and conquer.

Thank you for asking this question and thank you Dr. O :-)

Hi again Aileen. I actually starting using the Recovery EQ with HA about about 6 weeks ago (I switched from HylaSport). I can't say if it helped or not because I cantered Moose a week after starting it and thats when he went lame so I had no time to judge. I use it with my pony who is 18 and has arthritic issues (although has been completely sound for 4 years since a regimen of Adequan and now only oral supplements) and I don't see any difference (she looks fine regardless so theres nothing to really see), although HylaSport has the same exact ingredients except with ChonDrOitin instead of Nutricol.

I've considered changing to the regular Recovery EQ and using the Conquer paste to see if that makes a difference. My vet said that it's better absorbed in the paste form. It makes sense that it would be more quickly absorbed, but I wasn't sure about the better absorbed part. I guess it can't hurt. Moose also gets biweekly Adequan shots.

I started all of this after his injury but other than the current situation he never showed signs of arthritis, stiffness, or lameness. I guess I'm just looking for a way to fix him although I know I can't unless I can turn back time to the day he got hurt.

I too wish we could turn back time, Melissa, good luck with your boy!

I'm going to hijack here and ask a question for my horse, hope you don't mind...I wonder if using both conquer and Recovery EQ/HA would be too much HA? Dr. O, can you overdose on HA?

Double dosing the HA at any concentration and dosage I have seen in any product should certainly be safe.

Thanks Dr. O and thank you again Melissa for starting this thread. I've ordered the recovery eq/ha :-)
