Dr. O,
I was talking to a couple of friends about putting foals on the daily pyrantel tartrate dewormer and one of them commented that she would be concerned that this would prevent the horses from developing the natural resistance to ascarid infection when they were adults. Is that actually a concern with the daily dewormer?

Thanks,
Cindy D.

Any program that prevents complete exposure to worms, will prevent immunity from developing. On the other hand daily pyrantel may not be as effective in foals as adults at published dosages, for more see Care for Horses » Deworming & Parasite Control » Topic Overview of Deworming.
