Just want to throw this out - back in the summer of 2003 we double dosed all our horses with pyrantel p. to try to reduce the number of tapeworms, as advised by our vet. That fall Equimax came out with all it's advertising and we decided to try it too, as a new product with a new ingredient. My younger horses and stallion took it like a "sugar pill" ... but ALL of my broodmares were extremely effected. All went off their feed for days, including one mare that I thought would go thru fire for her feed, all were very lethargic, all seemed very stressed, all ran low grade temps. I was sure all would abort their pregnancies. It was bad enough I called the company and talked with their house vet, who told me it was because those mares had "very great infestations of tapeworms". When I told that vet that we had over the summer wormed for tapeworms she had nothing to say. When I told a friend about this, she pointed out that if you read the "fine print" the wormer was not approved for pregnant mares. I would be very reluctant to ever use that product again. The good news was that the mares did recover, over the course of a week to 10 days... and all did deliver foals with no problems.. but I am still hesitant about anything with praziquantal.

Hello Susan,
You need to carefully read the article Susan, it addresses the toxicity question with praziquantel and pregnancy as there has been a very rigorous experiment done.
