I live in Canada. Equimax (ivermectin 1.87%, praziquantel 14.03%), or any similar combination products, is apparently not approved yet for use in Canada and is not available in Canada. I obtained Equimax from the U.S. My vet could not recommend Equimax because of the lack of approval issue. I read Dr. O's article on these combination products. I would like to use it for my 23-year-old horse. Is it likely to be safe to administer it to him? I deworm him approximately every 6 weeks.

Yes it is likely to be safe if your horse is healthy. DrO

Is Equimax (ivermectin 1.87%/praziquantel 14.03%) still effective and/or safe after an expiration date of 06/05? I just noticed the date this morning. Thank you. Leilani

The published expiration date means that if stored according to instructions the product will still contain at least 90% of the active ingredients. If you have kept it inside in the air conditioning I would think it still would be good for a horse up to 1000 lbs. If it has been in the barn or vehicle, I would chuck it. DrO
