Posted on Wednesday, Jan 6, 2010 - 6:34 pm: Dr.O. I have a couple questions concerning Equioxx. I have been giving Sam either bute or banamine for his laminitis, I have read that Equioxx may be helpful in laminitis. I think I have read it is also a little easier on the stomach.Questions Would Equioxx be an acceptable nasid for laminitis? I'm sure you probably don't know the ans. to this question but will throw it out there anyway.. would it be LIKELY this type of drug may have any kind of "reaction" with pergolide? I asked my vet about trying it today and he said it certainly couldn't hurt. I stopped at the office to see how much it was and I refuse to pay that much!(unless it was a life and death situation of course). When I give Sam a dose of banamine OR a gram of bute he quits eating and looks "stupid" so I thought maybe trying Equioxx might be worth a try. SOOO the vet called me and he said he had a case of equioxx he would GIVE me if I wanted it. It expired in OCT. of 09' 2 mos. past expiration date. Would I be foolish to try it? Thanks |

My guy gets ulcers and has bad reactions to bute and any other NSID. My gelding has been on Pergolide for seven years and at first I used Conquer to control his discomfort. Now, I have to use Equioxx, but I only have to use 1/3 a dose to keep him comfortable. He is about 900lbs, but I use one tube over three days. You can find it on line at Chariton vet supply for 8.95 a tube. Since my gelding has been on both meds for over two years I can tell you it does not interact with Pergolide. |

You should also read the posts where the dog product is substituted for horses, at a much cheaper price. DrO |

Posted on Thursday, Jan 7, 2010 - 7:41 am: Thanks Dr.O. I think I will give it a try.I asked about previcoxx (I do read the articles) and related threads. They don't carry it, which surprises me because they actually have a pretty good small animal practice, maybe they had the same problems as with the equioxx and didn't sell enough to keep in stock. I bet they won't be carrying equioxx anymore either. Remember I live in a "one horse" town tho. |
