Hello, I have a 20 yr old QH (everyone says he looks and acts like he is 12) that has moderate arthritis in all 3 joints of his lf knee. He was diagnosed with radio-graphs a year and a half ago and was put on adequan. he has been fine until recently he became lame at the trot tracking right on a lunge line with the effected knee on the outside of the circle. it was pretty inconsistent but there. he was sound during the in hand trotting but flexed lame on it! I brought the vet ought and was going to ask her to inject TA/Triamcinalone instead of MPA/Methylprednisolone, but forgot to before she already did it! ( i feel horrible and it is totally my fault) My question is : in your opinion would a one time injection of MPA into an already compromised joint cause more damage? I am in a stupor over this. Thanks!

Welcome Joanne, Many horses receive a one time injection of intrarticular MPA, at doses recommended in the article, and do not experience any long term ill consequences. Indeed in cases of acute inflammation it releaves the inflammation and they go sound. Be sure you rest the horse for at least 3 weeks as recommended in the article. Small pasture or paddock rest should be fine. DrO
