I have a 15 yr old QH gelding with summer respiratory allergies and a cough. Last year the cough became severe. He responded well to Tri-hist last year. He did not respond to dexamethasone. What would be the best thing to try since Tr-hist is on backorder.

Hello cowboysmom,
The article associated with this discussion area contains a list of antihistamines and their dosages that have been used in the horse, see the top of the page for a link. None are approved for the horse so you should run it by your veterinarian before administering. I would also recommend you study HorseAdvice.com » Diseases of Horses » Respiratory System » Chronic Cough Without Fever for a list and description of possible rule outs and links to the specific disease article. That the problem did not respond to a appropriate dosage of dexamethasone would be odd for an allergy.
