Can someone tell me anything about a steroid called Winstrol (spelling probably not correct) and why it would be prescribed to a 13 year old show horse?

Hello Marion,
Winstrol is an anabolic steroid as opposed to an antiinflammatory steroid. We have an article on this at, Equine Medications: Miscellaneous Drugs: Boldenone. It has just been updated to include for extensive information.
