Does anyoneknow of any herbs or herbal products which are suitable for alleviating arthritis symptoms in horses?

Ann,
There is something called Devil's Claw. It comes in a liquid form under different names. The one I have used is "No Bute". There is also one called "Buteless". Devil's Claw has apparently been used in Europe for many years for arthritis. There was recently an article in a magazine (Horse Journal, I think) comparing products of this nature. I have found that it works for arthritis and for pain, but doesn't seem to work as an anti-inflamatory for injuries. Let me know if you want more information.

Thanks Kathleen,

Have you found that No Bute relieves the swelling
as well as the pain?

Ann,
For arthritis swelling, it may. I tried it for a swelling due to injury and it helped with the pain, but not with the swelling, as far as I could tell.

Hello,
A mare on my yard has the classic arthritis signs - she clicks like spanish castanets when she moves! She is aged and lives out all the time.
Is there anything that anyone would recommend to ease the discomfort? She isn't in that much pain as she gallops and bucks like a weanling still!
Thanks

I have been using Yucca Saponin for pain in my mare who has a bad case of ringbone ! I have been using it now for almost 9 months and find it works better than bute without the worry of hurting her with constant bute use. Barb
