Hi, My 10yo mare has recently undergone arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone chip from her fetlock. The surgery showed that there was "moderate, but localized" cartilage damage. And, according to the surgeon" her prognosis for returning to work (in dressage) is "pretty good". The vet also mentioned that joint injections may be necessary to help her stay comfortable and sound. So, with this in mind I've been researching the different "levels" of joint treatment (i.e. oral supplementation, IM (or IV) injections of Legend or Adequan, and joint injections.) And I was wondering where is the best place to start? Do I start with just oral supplements? And if so, how long do I need to wait before I decide they're not working well enough? Should I give Legend or Adequan a try before I request a joint injection? Any information on what to try (and in what order) would be most helpful. Also, for this type of damage would Legend or Adequan be most the beneficial (assuming these injections would be the way to go)? Many Thanks!

I think you should always be on a oral supplement. If there is lameness present JA, I would go ahead and inject with a corticosteroid injection with HA on approval of your vet. DrO
