Posted on Wednesday, Jul 5, 2000 - 6:07 pm: Where would I find out about the different types of supplements and what they do? For example, a horse that I am considering purchasing is on Biotin, Strongid C and Stress-dex (not sure about spellings). Is there a listing similar to the medications listing that is posted here? |

For instance Strongid is a dewormer so The Horseman's Advisor: Care for Horses: General Care: Deworming and Parasite Control would make sense.Biotin is used to improve hoof wall horn so: The Horseman's Advisor: Care for Horses: Hoof Care: Overview of Care of the Hoof. I am not sure what stress dex is. DrO |

Though it seems to have been a while that I have had to debunk a nutrition fad.DrO |

You would want to ask the current owner why the Biotin and Stress-dex. Some people feed those without any real reason, just 'cause they think it helps. Seems to be a waste of money if there isn't a particular reason. Regarding the daily wormer, you'll just have to decide if that fits your program. I don't like it, personally, but prefer the "traditional" paste wormers on a regular cycle. There are lots of sites that contain supplements for sale that you can look through - here are some: https://www.kvvet.com https://www.valleyvet.com https://www.unitedvetequine.com |

We were told that we should have put something else in with the oil to give it taste. He is on numerous amounts of antibotics. Is there anything else we can do? His fever runs between normal and 105 degrees.Marchetta McLendon |
