Discussion on Alternatives to Regumate for making my mare comfortable--Dr O?

When my mare is in heat, she goes a little psychotic--she is basically hyper, distracted and I think uncomfortable--bucks at the canter depart, can't pay attention. For various reasons, I don't want to use Regumate, and the "actings-up" aren't that frequent--she doesn't cycle very often after her spring flare-ups. Is there any equivalent to something like Motrin to make her more comfortable during her heats? Would bute help?

All you can do is try but your changes are more likely to be behavorial than pain related. I would think Banamine may be stronger for pain origination with internal organs.
