Hi Dr. O,
What kind of things if any should I worry about if I'm to give my horse (1000 lb about) 20 500mg tabs 2x a day for 10 days? Ibelieve this is twice the dose of 5 grams per 1000 lb 2x a day you mention in your article. I will be giving this with bute-2 grams once a day for 10 days. I plan on writing about my horses issues in the appropriate forum. We are giving this because his muscle are so tight and painful he wouldn't allow the vet to palpate without a tranquilizer. We are awaiting blood test as she feels there are some neurologicl things going on.
Thanks Dr. O,
Kim

Methocarbamol is fairly safe fron a toxicity standpoint and I do not think that this dose will cause harm. Doses of 50 grams / 1000 lb orally have been advocated for severe conditions (Cunningham, Fisher et al 1992). Watch for sedation and incoordination as early signs of toxicity.
