Hi DrO
How long does DMSO effects usually last for mild to moderate arthritic fetlock? The article says not to exceed 30 days --- are you supposed to stop for awhile ( like a week )then start treatment again? Thx again lol

Hello leslie,
The effects of DMSO on chronic arthritis are really not well studied and so there are no good answers to your questions. The dosage and the warning are both taken from a commercial medical grade DMSO package instructions and it is not clear what these recommendations are based on.

Can you tell me a bit more about your use and what effects you see?

Dr O,

Might seems like strange question, but is industrial DMSO (listed as a solvent on the label) the same as the DMSO that you purchase from a vet? We have a vet supply store that sells industrial DMSO for horses.

Hally, there was an interesting article in Arthritis Today about MSM and DMSO. Apparently you can only obtain medical-grade DMSO from a doctor, and almost all DMSO available to the public is industrial grade - including most veterinary DMSO.

Here's the link: https://www.arthritis.org/resources/arthritistoday/1999_11_12explorations.asp

Thanks LL.

Kind of scary that the stuff I smear on my horses legs is the same stuff that is used for industrial use!!
