Dr. O, I just noticed that UC Davis lists this vaccine for use in the pre-foaling vaccinations for the broodmare (I couldn't find anything specific in the articles, but I may have missed it). I have always used the Fort Dodge vaccine before for pre-foaling vaccs, but the Merial on all of the others (since it came out). Is the canarypox what is "modified live" or is it the virus? Can I use the Merial vaccine safely or should I give the Fort Dodge? Thanks, Jennifer

Hello Jennifer, The article, Diseases of Horses » Nervous System » Incoordination, Weakness, Spasticity, Tremors » West Nile Virus, explains about the different vaccines and how they are made and work. UC Davis is a reliable source of information but I use the Fort Dodge product for all applications. The article discusses cases where I might prefer the Merial product. DrO
