Hi there all Just wondering if I could get some advise on my mare. I moved her to a small pasture from a stall with a run. I did this so she could have her own pasture alone with the foal(once she does foal). Anyway she has eaten less and less as the week has progressed. No change of feed at all. Still at the same facility, merely 50 yards from here old stall. She has other horses 10 feet away in other pastures. I can't put here back inside as the facility is full. I am most worried that she is not getting her "Mare Plus"supplement. She is just eating a little bit of hay, alfalfa, equivalant of about one "flake" a day. Even though she is fed twice that amount along with pellets in the a.m. Very little grass to nibble on in the pasture. Any suggestions to atleast get her to eat the supplement? She is turning it down mixed with her normal Alfalfa meal & Molassas. When I take her out and let her graze on the tall grass she is just fine, normal eating. So I don't think it is an appetite issue. Like she is sick or something. Maybe I better call the vet? This is too strange. She has for sure lost some weight on her top line. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Lil

Is her best friend still close by? Can you mix the supplement with applesauce for a while and feed it to her? She may just need a little more time to adjust to the new situation. Does she seem depressed to you? You might take her temp just for the record. That's all I can think of right now. If she is eating at least one flake per day and doesn't seem overly depressed I'd give her a little more time before I called the vet. Hope she is happier soon! Jan

Certainly the history suggests that the change in surroundings has resulted in inappetance, a common and usually transient event. But we cannot rule out illness from here. If you are worried it might be worthwhile to call out the vet to be sure. DrO
