I'm a bit confused about blue eyes. There are couple of terms used for classifying blue eyes. Glass eye, wall eye, china eye etc. I've also heard that single cream diluted horses have navy blue eyes at birth which change as they grow older and double cream diluted horses have light blue eyes their entire life. Is this correct? I have a foal who was born with deep sky blue eyes. They encircle the black centre. They are not pale light blue or navy blue. Is there a way of telling whether these blue eyes are creme gene related which will change or if they will remain as they are? Thanks

In the homozygous condition the cremello gene (Ccr-Ccr) completely dilutes any coat color to a very pale cream with pink skin and blue eyes. Your best indication of whether your horse is cremello or a palamino is the color of the skin as palaminos have pigmented skin. However this is not the only gene control for blue eyes and if the eyes have white skin around them the likely hood of having blue eyes is high whether diluted or not. DrO

Hi DrO, My foal doesn't have pink skin. At the moment my foal is very pale chestnut with a completely black mane and her tail is black with creamy white hairs mixed in. Would you have any idea of how to tell what colour will be her adult colour from her baby coat? Not sure whether this would help but here is the colouring of her parents: Sire - Black Grand Sire - Roan out of Pink Strawberry Roan & Chestnut Grand Dam - Bay out of Bay & Chestnut Dam - Steel Grey out of all Greys/Grey Roans Thanks

I've managed to take a reasonably good photo of my foals eyes or eye rather so you can see for yourself rather than me explaining what they are like. Would you call this a wall or glass eye or is it colour genetics related instead? To me they seem quite unusual. Thanks again

Judging by the silver hairs this baby is likely to become grey. The eyes are very blue but I think they will darken with time (hazel?) but I do not know how much. I personally don't think the labels you suggest have much meaning, let's just call it blue for now. DrO
