Hello Dr. O,

What treatment protocol do you recommend to maintain pregnancy on a mare with a compromised cervix?

Thanks!

Hi Dr. O,

It does not close tightly during pregnancy, nor during diestrus/anestrus.

A common problem I see is cervixes which have torn during parturition and healed with a scar and we deal with that issue in our article on trouble settling mares.

Uhhhh....but how does one measure the tightness of the closure of the cervix CC? It should be noted, it would be normal for the cervix to be somewhat lax during anestrus but exactly what observation indicates laxity during pregnancy and diestrus? This is not a observation/diganosis that I have ever experienced nor had any information about.
