A yearling colt (maybe 16 months?) jumped into a pony mare's paddock last night. They were apart at 8:30 PM and together at 6:30 this morning. Both are a little sore and stiff, the colt has a swelling on the front of his rear cannon bone. He mounted her this morning, but not sure if anything happened. Of course it could have. The pony mare was showing signs of heat. So... what should be done at this stage to prevent implantation if a pregnancy did in fact occur. So sad! Colt is now confined to his stall....

Hello Judy,
PgF2a (Lutalyse and others) will reliably and safely induce abortion of the embryo if timed right. For more on how this is done see HorseAdvice.com » Treatments and Medications for Horses » Reproductive Drugs » Dinoprost, Lutalyse, Synchrocept.
