Discussion on Will Not Load in the Morning
Author Message

Posted on Tuesday, Aug 28, 2001 - 9:22 pm:

I have just purchased a two horse straight load trailer. My first time to trailer on my own is coming up Sat Sept 1st. I will be going approx 60 miles. My biggest fear is that my 12 yr old Morgan gelding will not load at 6:00 am in the morning. We do practice loading on & off in the evenings he is fine. I am just afraid that since we have a dead line to be somewhere he will get a stubborn streak.

We practice loading in the evenings and take short rides. I always reward with a treat. I thought on Sat. morning of having a flake of hay and, or a small amt of grain waiting in the trailer for him. He usually doesn't get grain as he is a easy keeper so when I do give him a hand full of grain on the trailer he loves it.

I have always depended on friends to take me on trail rides, he loads fine. They have a stock trailer and my horse will walk right on.

Any suggestions as Sept 1st is almost here and I am anxious!!

I recommend you practice in the morning too.
