I live in Northern California, where the Tevis Cup Endurance ride goes through...I haven't ridden endurance, so this is just my two cents...

It's not bad for your horse, IF and I say again IF you take the precautionary measures of properly preparing your horse for the rigors it will inevitably go through. The trails of the Tevis are quite treacherous. You MUST condition your horse properly, which means A LOT of riding and conditioning. Needless to say, the vet checks are on course for a very good reason, because unfortunately, there are some people out there that DO NOT condition their horses...I have heard a great many HORROR stories of how endurance riding without proper conditioning has killed or broken horses.

Please be careful and get professional advice before you proceed.
