I have read that a girth with elastic on both ends is kinder for the horse but recently have been told that the give of the elastic can cause tender swellings in the girth area.
Has anyone else heard this?
Thanks

Hi Lori,
For everyday schooling, my girth has elastic on both ends. The only time I have a problem is after my horse is freshly clipped when I think any girth would rub the short hair. At that point, my horse gets rub marks (if I don't use a fleece cover), but there's never been any swelling.

i'd say its both lori, depending on how you use the girth..
the same give that makes it easier for a horse's ribcage to expand and makes the girth "kinder" can also cause the girth to be overtightened to the point where there is no longer any give to the elastic ends..
