Hello,
Does anyone have suggestions for cleaning horsehair mecates? I have one that I haven't used for a while but used heavily in the past so it's got a lot of old dried sweat and hair on it making it stiff. I'd like to start using it again but want to clean it first.

Thanks for any help!

Hi Holly,

I've had good luck soaking horsehair mecates in warm water with a little bit of Downey, then rinsing them well and hanging them out to dry. They actually end up softer than they started, too.

Same here,

Shampoo. or a mild soap, and hang to dry

Thanks all. I'd like to keep it a bit on the prickly side as I'm going to use it in training my young horse to neck rein. Probably Woolite would work good too.
