Dear Horseadvice friends

Just wanted to recommend a really good book, "Making the Young Horse the Rational Way" by Elwyn Hartley-Edwards. The author was editor of Riding Magazine for many years and also a Horse and Hound contributor, and a columnist for the British Horse Society magazine.

I have always found his writing funny, full of common sense and to ring true with my own experiences. He is extremely knowledgeable about tack of all kinds as well.

Those who have posted about teaching young horses to lead will be interested in "Galvayne's Harness", the only gadget he really recommends, which is a rope around the quarters, held up over the back in some way and coming forward through bit rings or halter D-rings which can be used to encourage forward movement in horses that attempt to pull back.

With best wishes

Thanks Imogen It is always good to hear about a book that works.
The local bookstore doesn't carry horse training books so I always have to order sight unseen.
