I purchased a rope halter from KVVET and when it came I noticed that it had two extra knots on the noseband. It did not say this on the description. I've looked into this on the internet and it's supposedly some Australian design. Is this safe/humane? It seems like I read somewhere on the internet that it is not recommended. Just wondering before I spend the $6 to send it back. Thanks.

It is only as harsh as the user :-).

I use 2 halters - one to retrieve my princess out of the pasture - groom and saddle her and the rope halter for work. The one for grooming is flat - the one for work not only has 2 extra knots, but rings are knotted in at the sides for additional leverage if ever necessary. She knows when I switch - playing and most hugs and kisses end :-).... of course - when the princess was younger - she required a rope halter most of the time.

Hey Angela,

All of the halters I use on my horses are the type sold by Clinton Anderson, and they have the two extra knots on the noseband (there's four knots total).

As Kathy said, it's only as harsh as the hand on the other end, but if the knots are positioned correctly on the nose, and are on the pressure points correctly, they're supposed to provide better control.
