I have never seen stallions shown in hand before...But, the handlers for the RIDs I saw were fabulous! The stallions were huge puppydogs. When asked to stand they squared up and didnt move a foot, nice soft eyes... And then when asked to move out... dont really know words to describe it but, they basically had them sort of cantering in hand, they were full of strength and like they could explode at any minute, but they never once passed their handlers. So much presence and charisma and strength. It was raw and intense!! I loved it!! They are massive, but not like drafts such as shires or clydes, more refined but still huge. And then when asked to stand, they went right back to softeyed puppydogs.

Is it always like that at in-hand shows? Does anyone on HA show in hand? Ive only seen QH halter classes, and this was the polar opposite.
I know...I am smitten with the RIDs, but still...

Hi Leslie. I don't know anything about RID showing in hand but I just had to comment. My background is also in QH halter classes and I had never seen an Arabian halter class until I went to the Arabian Nationals, in Tulsa, when Sara W was there. It was exactly the same as you describe! When the first horse was brought into the arena with head and tail high and cantering around it's handler I asked Sara if they took points off for the horse acting like that. She said, no, they WANT that. When horse and handler got to the point in the arena where they were supposed to walk it was like a switch was flipped and the horse immediately DrOpped to a calm walk. It was pretty impressive. So, my guess would be the RIDs showing in hand is the same.
