Untill recently we had 2 horses. Our mare is gone and now our gelding is alone, 2 weeks now. The first time in 20 years he has been alone. Has been ok until yesterday, the weather is cold and nasty, so we haven't been spending as much time with him. I now notice him laying down alot more, calm and relaxed though. He is pushier for attention and not wolfing down his hay as usual. How common is depression or seperation anxiaty in horses?

Hello akmikeb,
What could be easily termed "separation anxiety" is common in horses but not what you describe in your horse.

When horses are separated from their buddies there is often a day to week of running the fences and frequent hollering is an apparent attempt to find their buddy. I also don't read anything that sounds like depression, just the normal difference between a horse with the constant stimulation of a companion/competitor and one without.
