This seemed the best place for this post though what do I know? Never before have I entered the intricacies of Western Qualities. My new pet Tax [who led to a horrible colorconfusion and is now a chorrel] has under her name in the extensive pedigree "finished cutting mare, Mum states 'L.T.E. A[?].C.H.A. $1291,33, Granddam HALT.O Perf.9.0 GGD HALT.18.0 PERF.2.c.o AQHA Open Champion 1974 AQHA R.O.M. PERF. 1970, and last GGGD HALT. 22.o PERF. 27.0 Who is willing to explain this to me??? Thanks and please don't disagree could be my reading of the handwriting that now confuses everyone Jos

Well, Jos, as I mentioned before I would love to have this mare! She is definitely bred for cow. Here's her pedigree in a little easier to read format: https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/smart+taxolena I've always been partial to King Ranch Quarter Horses for many reasons. Tax's grandsire on the bottom is Mr San Peppy who was not only an NCHA world champion but also a valued working horse and sire on the King Ranch. Farther back on the top you can see Peppy San, a full brother to Mr San Peppy but not a King Ranch horse. Peppy San was also an NCHA world champion and an AQHA hall-of-famer. Tax's gransire on the top is Smart Little Lena. Smart Little Lena was a show horse more than a ranch horse and one of only a few horses to win the NCHA "triple crown." He's one of the (if not THE) leading sires in the cutting world. Anyway, Tax has a lot of celebrities close up in her pedigree and if you follow her lines back just about everything you see comes from the foundation lines. If she's not already registered foundation she sure could be. And, it's my opinion that you've made a good choice breeding her to Dun It With a Whiz. https://www.allbreedpedigree.com/dun+it+with+a+whiz I truly can't wait to see the baby you get next spring!

Jos, it just occurred to me that you probably didn't want my opinion of the pedigree but rather you wanted to know what the numbers meant! "Mum states 'L.T.E. A[?].C.H.A. $1291.33" means: Tax’s dam’s L.T.E = life time earnings in the A (could that be an N?) C.H.A. = National Cutting Horse Association of $1291.33 "Granddam HALT.O Perf.9.0" means: Tax’s granddam has earned 0 halter points and 9 performance points. "GGD HALT.18.0 PERF.2.c.o AQHA Open Champion 1974 AQHA R.O.M. PERF. 1970" means: Tax’s great-granddam earned 18 halter points and 2 performance points. She was an AQHA Open Champion in 1974 and won an AQHA Register of Merit in performance in 1970. Now, with the championship and the ROM I started to wonder about her having only 2 performance points so I looked up the record. The great-granddam actually has 24 performance points. I’ll send you a copy of the record. "GGGD HALT. 22.o PERF. 27.0" means: Tax’s great-great-granddam earned 22 halter points and 27 performance points. Does that help or are you more confused??

Jos, you need to spend some time at Mary's - seriously. They have all the free mags, flyers, etc. there that tell you what is going on in the horse world. I know there is a huge all breed show coming up soon at the Del Mar Show grounds. They have a lot of QH/Paint shows down there; there was a big one at the show grounds right in back of Mary's last time I was down there; I didn't mention it because you didn't have a QH then! There are a lot of smaller shows out in Temecula, too, which isn't very far from you.

Thanks Sara, well we'd better shop together and I seem to remember seeing arabs chasing cows to at Scottsdale, so perhaps I can get a combined education! Jos
