Hello all,

I have been riding my 24 y/o Appdx QH mare in a Kieffer Aachen II (wide tree) for years. As she ages, though, it's just not fitting her well anymore; after much padding and tweaking, I am finally admitting that I am now in the market for a saddle.

I love the Aachen because I mostly do basic dressage and trail riding, and only occasionally pop over a log or something if it's in the way. So, I'd like to find another dressage-oriented all purpose, or perhaps a true dressage saddle that allows enough rider movement to accommodate trail riding.

I know I will have to try a bunch of different ones to get the right fit (my mare is broad up front like a typical QH), but I am hoping that you all might be able to help me start the search by recommending some models to look at. I am going to try a Forestier Montignac this weekend but from the look of it I am thinking it may be too forward for dressage. We'll see. Thanks!

Lisa I ride my very wide bodied arab both in the arena and on trails in a Stubben Tristan that I love, it's very comfortable for us both. It's not an all purpose but since he does almost exclusively flat work it works for him.

Hi - I also do mostly dressage and trail riding with my very hard to fit Quarter Horse mare. I ended up with an Arthur Kottas dressage saddle, and it has a nice deep seat, and makes both of us extremely happy. Good luck!

Thanks, everyone. The Montignac was *way* too narrow for my mare, and they don't make it in a wide tree. I am next going to try the Lynn Palm Alliance Ecole, which she says (we are having a Lynn Palm clinic at my barn this weekend) allows enough movement for trail. I checked out the Stubben Tristan and the Arthur Kottas line and the Ecole looks like it could be similar. Fingers crossed!
