My little Arab filly, coming 7, toes on on the left hind, a slight conformation defect which seems to originate high up, probably in her stifle. She also has trouble picking up the right canter lead under saddle (she is fine without tack on the lunge), which I think might be related to the problem. Are there any exercises I can do that might help straighten and strengthen her left hind, or is this just something I will have to live with. I have been working her to the right at the canter with some success but it's obviously difficult for her and I'd like to minimize her discomfort. Thanks!

Hello Zoe, Does the leg turn out just from the lower leg down or does the whole leg turn out. If just the lower leg where does it start? DrO

It's the whole leg, Dr. O, from the stifle down. It's not a severe turnout, but noticeable. I'll try to remember to take a picture next time I'm out.

I don't believe you can straighten this leg but any exercise will strengthen the leg. Often the best plan for adult horses with rotational deformities of the whole leg is to trim and shoe the horse in alignement with the pastern and squaring off the toe in the direction of natural breakover to ease movement.
