The past two days, my horse has started flapping his lips while we are riding in the arena. Just wondering what could be the cause of this? One person at the barn suggested he might be nervous, and today he certainly was a little nervous and spooky, but yesterday he was very calm and well behaved... except for the lip flapping. Had his teeth checked a few weeks ago, and they're fine...using the same bit/bridle we've been using for almost a year, so nothing new there. Anyone have any ideas what could cause this type of behavior? Thanks in advance!

Peanut butter? (sorry had to joke) but seriously, I have no idea - my horses do that once in a while too but just for a little bit. I think its cute. never worried about it. do you use a bit?

My guy does that sometimes for his own amusement when he is bored and with him it is done when he is really relaxed. He's just playing and clowning around.

My horse seems to lip flap when she's feeling good, for example when I'm free-schooling her and she's getting up a good rhythm, feeling really in the zone type of thing. Mind you, I don't mean a loud, exaggerated lip flap, you have to be looking to notice it.
